A Person

A person. A person is running. A person is running in the dark of night. A person is running in the dark of night, stumbling and gasping for air. A person is running in the dark of night, stumbling and gasping for air, through a deserted alley. A person is running in the dark of night, stumbling and gasping for air, through a deserted alley to get some exercise.

The Henchperson and the Hero

INT. - ABANDONED WAREHOUSE - NIGHT

Lightning strikes turn the window panes into raindrop-riveted strobe lights that reveal THE HERO sitting in a chair in the middle of the giant and otherwise empty space. A HENCHPERSON towers in front of them.

HENCHPERSON

Give me the password, or else.

THE HERO
(Peace sign fingers up on both hands, and curling)

  Oh?! Or "else" what?

HENCHPERSON

If you use air quotes one more time, I'm tying you up.

THE HERO
(Fingers curling again)

  Tying me "up" to what?

HENCHPERSON

  That's it.

The henchperson ties the hero's hands behind the back of the chair and returns to face them.

HENCHPERSON

Now, give me the password, or else.

THE HERO

Oh?! Or air quote “else” air quote what?

HENCHPERSON

You're actually going to say "air quote" now.

THE HERO

So how else should I emphasize this so-called air quote "else" air quote?

HENCHPERSON

You can't say "so-called" and "air quote" - that's like saying “frozen ice.”

THE HERO

Alright, how about this alleged, so-called air quote "else" air quote?

HENCHPERSON

  Nope.

THE HERO

Well then, how about this supposed, alleged, so-called air quote "else" air quote?

HENCHPERSON

You're going the wrong direction, buddy.

THE HERO

With that said, how about this purported, supposed, alleged, so-called air quote "else" air quote?

HENCHPERSON

Give me the password, or else.

THE HERO

Moving on, untie me and I'll give you this dubious, purported, supposed, alleged, so-called air quote "password" air quote.

The henchperson unties the hero's hands and returns to face them.

HENCHPERSON

  And?

THE HERO
(Fingers curling again)

  Air quote P, A, S, S, W, O, R, D air quote.

HENCHPERSON

See, was that so hard? Now, is that with or without the air quotes?

THE HERO

  Which ones?
